[ARCHIVED] Welcome Back GHS!

Hello Gardner High School Families!

I am very excited to get started with the 2022-2023 school year and cannot wait to have a building full of students and staff again.  Each new year presents us with an opportunity to showcase new programming opportunities for our students while also building upon and expanding some of the great programming we already have in place.  Giving our students an equitable and well-rounded education that can be related to real world experiences in preparation for college and/or career is our number one priority.

We are working hard at getting the school facility ready for our students.  You will notice fresh paint throughout the entryway, halls and in many classrooms; a newly painted main office, which will soon have new carpets; as well as a freshly painted auditorium floor, which puts the finishing touches on that renovation.   Floors have been waxed throughout the building, new office space built for additional programming, and classrooms re-assembled to accommodate the return of all our students.  Very exciting!

As has been the case in years past, our Link Crew will greet our new 8th grade students on the first day of school for orientation.  The Link Crew does a wonderful job making sure all 8th grade students have a fun, positive transition to the high school.  In order to accommodate 8th grade orientation activities on the first day, the following schedule will be in place:

Tuesday, September 6th, 2022:     * Students in Grade 8 will have a full day of school (7:45 am to 2:30 pm).

                                                     * Students in Grades 9 through 12  will have a half day of school (7:45 am to 10:30 am).

                                               * Breakfast will be served to all students and lunch will be served to 8th grade students. Buses will be running for all student for am pick-up, again at 10:30 for grades 9 -12, and then again at 2:30 for 8th grade.

Wednesday, September 7th, 2022 will be a full day of school for all students.

The schedule for the first week of school along with the new GHS 2022-2023 Bell Schedule is attached separately.  Please note the new high school start time is 7:45 am and end time is 2:30 pm.  We are hoping this 30 minute difference in time will give our students the opportunity to sleep a little later and be more refreshed when they get to school.  Remember, students need to be in their advisory to start the day no later than 7:45 am.

The district is changing to a new database program (PowerSchool) this year.  Although this has been a bit of a daunting task and there will inevitably be some bumps in the road as we roll out this system, the end result will be a much more efficient and user-friendly system for staff, students and parents.  Although we expect it to be soon, the student and parent portal is not activated quite yet.  As a result, we are mailing home hard copies of student schedules.  We will also have schedules available in advisory on the first day of school, but at least this way students can review their schedules ahead of time.  Look for schedules and some supplemental information in the mail over the next week.

Similar to last year, school buses will be dropping students off in the front of the building.  Parent drop-off and pick-up will be behind the building.  For the most up to date bus schedules, please look on the district website at www.gardnerk12.org under the transportation tab.  There could be a few minor changes, so you should check again closer to the start date of school.

Opening day packets with important forms will be handed out to students on the first day of school.  Please take the time to review the information and complete the paperwork as it is vital that we have updated contact information, addresses, phone numbers, medical information, etc.  Enjoy the last few days of your summer and be prepared to have another great year at Gardner High School!

Sincerely,

Paula Bolger, GHS Principal
