Dear Gardner Public School Community,
Since Friday, we have been notified of seven new positive cases of COVID-19 in the district. Three of these cases were not in our schools during their contagious period (one at Gardner Middle School, and two at Elm Street School), and will not require any further action. The other four cases were in school during their contagious period, one each at Waterford Street School, Elm Street School, Gardner Middle School, and Gardner High School.
Our school nurse leader interviewed teachers and families to identify close contacts. The individuals are isolating according to the GPS Protocol: Gardner Public Schools Protocols for Responding to COVID-19 Scenarios in School, on the Bus, or in Community Settings , and will not return to school until cleared by the Board of Health after completing the required isolation period. All families from classrooms that had a positive case present will receive a more specific email. Any staff or students affected by these cases will receive further notifications through our email and OneCall systems.
We will continue to keep you updated of any additional COVID-19 positive individuals in our schools. Please know that confidentiality of our staff and students’ health information is important, and that we are not able to give information that could identify the individual. We will continue to work closely with the Gardner Board of Health and our District Safety Committee in making decisions regarding in-person vs remote learning. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we continue to navigate through this pandemic, while keeping the health and safety of our school community as our top priority.
Sincerely,
Mark J. Pellegrino, Ed. D.
